Santa Barbara Jesusita Fire Update


The press release from Santa Barbara County emergency officials:

At approximately 1:45 p.m. a fire began in the Cathedral Peak area. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Fire Status

• Fire began in the Cathedral Peak area at 1:45 p.m.

• Approximately 4 acres burned, currently moving in a northeasterly direction.

• A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for all locations north of Foothill Road (Highway 192) east of Ontare Road and Morada Lane, and west of El Cielito Road/Gibraltar Road to East Camino Cielo.

• The American Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the First Presbyterian Church - 21 E. Constance St. (Constance and State Streets) in Santa Barbara.

• The fire response is being administered by a Unified Command consisting of the Santa Barbara Fire Department, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Montecito Fire, and the US Forest Service.

• A large animal evacuation center has been established at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara,

• The National Weather Service anticipates continued warm weather and high wind conditions.
