One of the actors that will be honored at the 2011 edition of the Santa Barbara Film Fest is James Franco, who will be presented with the Outstanding Performance of the Year Award on Saturday, January 29.
Franco is being honored for his performance in Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, the true story of rock climber who has to cut off part of his own arm in order to save his life after he becomes trapped by a boulder.
The selection of Franco's performance for recognition undoubtedly means the film itself will be shown during the festival as it's customary to screen the film that earned the performer the honor.
According to an article in today's LA Times a number of audience members at early previews of 127 Hours have fainted during the amputation scene.
The movie was recently screened locally by the Cinema Society. Film Geek Roger Durling wrote on his blog that the response to the film was "tremendous."
I'm hoping that means everyone in attendance left the theater vertically and not horizontally.
