The Blogs of Future Past

Yesterday, I received an announcement heralding a new blog in town; SantaBarbaraNewsPressBlog.com. (And before you click on the link to go over there, consider yourself warned about that picture on the bottom of the page.)

According to the first post, which went up Monday, "this will be a dirty little blog, full of lies, gossip, some true stuff and.. well, it'll be kinda like the paper in question!"

Gee, a blog that chronicles the self-immolation at the News-Press. Wonder where they came up with that idea?

The author of the blog is "Mick Von Caw," which I think is safe to assume is a nom de guerre.

The debut of SantaBarbaraNewsPressBlog.com got me to thinking about some of the other local blogs that have come and gone in the last two years.

Remember Spendy McFlaw? There's not much to be found at McFlaw's site these days, but, at least the web page now has a nice, clean, uncluttered design.

And what about Santa Barbara Star Free-Press? It's still there, although it hasn't been updated since October of 2006.

Same is true for the Daily Webloid. It's still online despite the fact that its author, the star crossed Will Spens, was killed in a traffic accident in April.

In any event, let me be the first to raise my glass and welcome SantaBarbaraNewsPressBlog.com to the local blogosphere. I hope you're around for a long time to come.

And, anybody care to wager on how long it will be before the proprietor of the new blog hears from Wendy's two best friends "Cease" and "Desist" about the title of the blog ? Hope he didn't pay too much to register that domain name.

In non-blogosphere news, good to see Gerry Fall back on the air doing the sports at KEYT. He returned on Monday.
